Cabinetry Finishes
“A white door will always have its place, but bringing an unadorned profile into the now with texture and/or colour is becoming ever more popular. “While the profile of the cabinet is important, it is the colour that will have the most impact on the space,” says Laura Pittaway, interior designer for Sunday Homes. The colour you choose for your cabinets will play a crucial role in influencing the overall aesthetic and mood of the space.
Mixing Profiles
This interweaving of different profiles is gaining traction in kitchen design. “Mixing profiles is also a nice way to create a layering of elements and can give a kitchen a more modern feel,” says Laura.
Hardware
Want the chance to introduce exciting materials and textures, upscale a plain space or accessorise a statement look? Turn to hardware. “Whether you decide on an integrated handle, or a fitted statement handle or knob, it really has a big impact on the overall look of the kitchen,” says Laura. Going handle-free lets your cabinetry shine and delivers a clean, uncluttered look, but increasingly, integrated handles are the way to go. “Not only is it sleek and contemporary but it looks fresh and is easier to clean,” says Laura. Integrated handles can be routed into the surface for a tone-on-tone look, or given a complementary finish to add a hint of detail.
One of the simplest ways to bring stand-out style to your cabinetry is to go for something unexpected. “If you want to make a statement then choose something that pops,” says Laura. “We love to play with scale, and to mix and match handles and knobs. We also love a statement handle, like Sibella Court’s range at The Society Inc, or the beautifully curated offering at Noble Elements.”
Colour
Colour in the kitchen is not only trending big time, it’s the perfect way to make the space uniquely yours. “If you are looking at colours for a traditional profile, a bold colour would create contrast and drama,” says Laura. “Or if you were to pair it with a more neutral tone then you would impart a calm and serene feel.” Colour is also such a powerful design tool and will impact things like the mood, atmosphere and the perceived size of the room.
