A large scale renovation of an existing home, Wayfarer House reimagines every interior surface to create a space that feels fresh, textural and quietly playful. Inspired by the clients’ travels, the design balances bold moments with a minimalist sensibility, layering seaside tones, natural materials and tactile finishes to achieve a home that feels both lively and grounded.

Central to the transformation was a complete reworking of the floorplan to better support the way the home is lived in. The kitchen and dining spaces were thoughtfully repositioned, allowing the kitchen to sit beneath generous ceiling heights, while the dining area was designed as a more intimate zone, anchored by a custom bar cabinet that brings both function and a sense of occasion.

The scale of the property became a defining feature. Soaring ceilings and a U shaped courtyard layout informed key architectural decisions, including increasing the height of the glass doors to amplify openness and connection to the outdoors. A subtle drop timber ceiling was introduced to the dining space, softening the volume and creating a more grounded, inviting atmosphere.

Materiality plays a leading role throughout. Travertine flooring extends from the exterior through the ground level and into the pool area, creating a seamless flow between inside and out. Moments of personality are layered in through unexpected details, from sculptural bar joinery to expressive material pairings in the bathrooms and laundry, offering quiet surprises that reveal themselves over time.

The result is a home that feels considered yet effortless, where scale, texture and planning come together to support a relaxed, elevated way of living.
